Yewande 103 is a Black, disabled-led and parent-led dance organisation founded in 2020 by artist and writer Alexandrina Yewande Hemsley.

Yewande—Alexandrina’s middle name, passed through generations of women in her family—comes from the Yorùbá meaning “mother has returned”.

Our company is grounded in cyclical, nurturing, and embodied approaches to practice, exploring breath, voice, and connection amidst inequity.

Our work spans performance, film, workshops, and community practice, creating care-centred spaces for repair, gathering, and creative exchange.

Creative Engagement & Consultancy

We offer workshops, community projects, and creative consultancy that explore dance, writing, and reflective practice. Rooted in care and accessibility, these sessions help participants and organisations reconnect to their bodies and imagination.

Alexandrina’s values, insights and curiosity flowed through all of these encounters and have contributed towards our policies, engagement with communities and artists and understanding the possibilities of new models of choreography and interdisciplinary performance.
